Internal remodel and an infill extension of a 3 bedroom property built in 1808. Situated at a prominent corner site within the Kensington Conservation Area.
The extensive re-planning of the property increased useable space and infilled an existing light-well. The new layout creates a dramatic open plan living kitchen area on the ground floor which benefits from high ceilings and increased daylight, forming a grander arrival from the front entrance.
Bespoke joinery throughout to maximise storage and conceal the whole house ventilation system. Circulation spaces are kept to a minimum to maximise living space of the compact property.
The existing convoluted stair layout has been replaced by a compact and new reorientated stairs to maximise space and bring daylight deep into the house.
A striking double height ceiling at the top floor reveals the shape of the heritage butterfly roof. A new glazed enclosure with timber frame and sliding doors provides access to a first floor terrace which is extended by the infill extension to the previous light-well. The new terrace is bordered by a raised planter to ensure visual privacy from the neighbouring properties.
The interior is a pure, pared back style with a warm palette of materials accentuated with brass fittings and European oak. The wet rooms feature a darker palette of materials with tadelakt and dark bronze fittings to create a richer and intimate environment.
The whole house ventilation and heat pump is installed to allow for all year round fresh air and ventilation to create a comfortable and energy efficient home.
